A foot orthotic is a device that can be discretely inserted into the shoe to support, align, prevent and/or accommodate foot abnormalities and improve how the foot functions. Feet are the main contact point that our body has with the ground, so it is vital that this relationship be as optimal as possible. The footwear is as important as the orthotic.

Not every client needs custom foot orthotics and they are not always prescribed specifically for foot related issues. Back, hip and knee pathologies can also be improved with custom foot orthotics. Here at Point of Balance Physiotherapy Ltd, our physiotherapist has received comprehensive training in gait analysis technology through Footmaxx. Combined knowledge of foot biomechanics, gait analysis interpretation as well as extensive clinical expertise in assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions affords the physiotherapist the ability to prescribe, fit and dispense custom foot orthotics designed to meet the needs of individual clients.

Footmaxx diagnostic MetascanTM and 3DmaxxTM systems use highly advance proprietary software to help clinicians further evaluate clients for knee, hip, lower back, balance and biomechanical issues. MetascanTM is a foot scanner that captures a client’s gait in real-time. Software then analyzes the detailed scan and determines deviations in alignment, movement, pattern and body symmetry. 3DmaxxTM captures a three-dimensional image of the foot, like a plaster cast. The data collected by this scan allows for precise prescription of custom foot orthotics by the qualified practitioner.
